He was present in many battles and wasespecially distinguished in the battles of Pittsburg Landing, Murfreesboroand Lookout Mountain. He returned to Woodstock and continued in themanufacture of woolen goods until his death. He was ;i mc^mber of Otta-quechee Lodge, F. and A. M. of Woodstock. He was married October 17, 1867, to Elizabcith Collanier Johnson ofWoodstock, Vt., who survives him antl resides in that town. Ainsworth, son of Ralph and Polly Drury (Chase) Ainsworth,was born in Claremont, X. H., June 3, 1830, and died in Williamstown, Vt.,August 30, 1909. He attended the pubUc schools of his native town, andprepared for college at the Kimball Union Academy, Meriden, N. H. Heentered the University in 1850, and graduated B. S. in 1853; was adjutant ofthe corps in the last term of his senior year; was a volunteer tutor in Mathe-matics for General Jackman, the last two terms of his course. The Universityin recognition of his work as an engineer conferred upon him, in 1898, thedegree of C. E. in course. In the fall of 1854, he removedto Dubuque, Iowa, and the nextyear was engaged on governmentsurveys in what are now Millelacsand Isanti Counties, Minnesota,where for months he saw no whitemen except those of the party, andoften h
