An 1850's wash drawing of a Bilston colliery (UK) miner in his work were a number of collieries in the district after the Industrial Revolution, prior to which it was a largely rural area dependent on farming. By 1900, numerous factories and coalmines could be found along with houses especially built for the workers. The Bilston coal mines were supposedly haunted by an evil spirit, and a local exorcist known as The White Rabbit was called in to rid the mines of the spirit.
