It was subsequently decided desirable to have the subjectof rails considered by the way committee. All the informationreceived on this subject was turned over to that committee ditions. The dimensions proposed very nearly approach thestandards adopted by many of the large electric railwayproperties of the country. In this connection thecommittee has profited very materi-ally by the experience of similar organizations which havedeveloped the axle problem since the beginning of operation. Standardization—Proposed Standards for Axles. by direction of the president, anil that committee will submita separate report. This committee has considered the subjectof rails and special work only as affecting the recommenda-tion of a standard wheel tread and flange. In order thoroughly to study the conditions affecting theabove subjects, the committee held meetings in New York onMay 20 and 21, in Cleveland on July 20 and 27, and also inNew York on September 12 and 13. 1907. At each of thesemeetings representatives of the various manufacturers of allthe equipment under consideration were present, and materi-ally assisted the committee in arriving at the recommenda-tions which are embodied in this report. Abstracts of the dis-cussions at these meetings have been printed and widely cir-culated and this has resulted in a favorable sentiment towardthe subject of standardization.
