One man began to chant, and the whole party joinedoccasionally in chorus. Though somewhat monotonous, themusic was not unpleasing. They were armed with bow and arrows, the assegai andthe knob kierie; but the two first-named weapons were ofsmaller dimensions than those used by the Damaras. Theirbows, moreover, were constructed fiom a kind of wood calledmohama, which, in its natural state, is flat on one side, andthus, in a degree, of the required form. The arrows are generally tipped with bone or iron; butthey do not often poison them. They carry their quiversunder the left arm by means of a strap across the rightshoulder. In addition to the weapons mentioned, they havea dagger, protected by a leather sheath tastefully ornamentedwith thin copper DAGGER AST) SHEATH.
