Namaqua sandgrouse male (Pterocles namaqua). This ground-foraging bird is common in southern Africa, living in open grasslands and desert areas. It feeds mainly on seeds and berries in the day and roosts in a shallow scrape at night. Photographed in the De Hoop Nature Reserve, in the Western Cape region of South Africa.
