I found that many had started with exceed-ingly dim notions as to what lay before them in theirsea-life; that some were inadequately provided withthose necessaries of personal outfit which, though perhapstrifling in themselves, are, especially in the case of aninvalid, so indispensable to comfort during a long voyage;and that others had formed no definite plans for theirstay in the country for which they were bound.
