Professor Burton and Ozutsu Manemon also known as Taiho, the 18th Yokozuna (Sumo wrestler) taken in 1895. See description for more information.

William Kinnimond Burton (on the left) was a British engineer who spent much of his career in Japan. He was a keen photographer and along with Japanese photographer, Ogawa Kazumasa, he founded the Japanese Photographic Society. With Ogawa and Professor Jukichi Inouye, Burton published the first illustrated English account of Japanese wrestling in 1895. This is one of Burton's photos. The gentleman on the right is Ozutsu Manemon (1868 to 1918), also known as Taiho, the 18th Yokozuna.
