"Simon Evans 1895 – 1940), a postman with the GPO for most of his short life developed a reputation in the 1930s as a writer and broadcaster on country life, particularly in and around Cleobury Mortimer, where he lived for 14 years in rural South Shropshire. His first book "Round About the Crooked Steeple" was his most successful book, and describes his round along the River Rea. He took the jobto relieve respiratory injuries sustained when gassed during the First World War, however he died from illness in 1940. His round is commemorated by the "Simon Evans Way" long distance path.
