It, therefore, appears to elect those muscles whichshow the highest differentiation of function and which represent thelatest motor acquirements in the evolutionary scale,—namely, circum-duction of the upper limb and the opposition of the thumb to thefingers. If the morbid process be one of involution, we might naturallyexpect such a program.
