Alim-Louis Benabid (born 1942), French neurosurgeon. Benabid and his colleagues developed deep brain stimulation in 1987 to treat patient's with Parkinson's disease. He has been professor of biophysics at the Joseph Fourier University in Grenoble since 1983 (emeritus since 2007). He was elected a member of the French Academy of Sciences in 2002. His awards include the 2013 Robert A. Pritzker Prize for Leadership in Parkinson's Research. Photographed in 2012, at the French Academy of Sciences, Paris, France.
