Alter, or chapel, with Christ carrying the cross in the church of Nossa Senhora da Conceicao Velha - Our Lady of Conceicao Velha - near the Praca Com.

This church stands on the site of the original 16th century Nossa Senhora da misericordia church which was largely destroyed in the 1755 the elaborate Manueline doorway survived. The somewhat dirty, traffic-stained outer doorway gives way to a surprisingly bright interior with an unusual stucco ceiling and beautiful side chapels or alters such as this.
