Itisnt a sacredly, secret operation anymore, and all this mummery about itsbeing such a trick is mere rot. When a common farmer who does notknow a ladle from a melting pot, onlyas they are labelled can take the printeddirections of a mail order house andafter reading same, go on and caulkand pour these soil pipe joints, I guessthat there isnt so very much to it. Itssure time that some of these pig-headed. Fig. 2. plumbers woke up and got next to them-selves. Merely calling the mail orderhouses bad names will never stop theirdoing business. Then again every timethe plumber opens his mouth he givesthe mail order house a free ad andthat is just what they like. In Fig. 1, of this article, you have theillustration of how the student is taughtto caulk the pipe in one of the tradeschools established for the purpose. Youwill observe that the pipe is in all kindsof positions and that the students aregetting right after the work. They areinstructed first and then must do theactual work. Isnt this better thanwaiting six months in some shop for theing six months in some shop for thechance to get at the pipe and isnt itmore practical ?
