Sunset over an unnamed ridge Kosciusko National Park, NSW Australia

After a spectacular alpenglow display I left the camera bag on a granite boulder and dashed around madly trying to find a group of boulders I saw before. It wasnt a chance find, I'd spotted this earlier when rushing to catch that amazing afternoon light. I knew if the sun was setting at the right spot on the distant ridge, I could use the two granite boulders as focal anchors and the bottom slab to point to the sun. I made a few images but then tendrils of mist droping from the low cloud moved to veil the sun. The effect was a haze of red mist adding an extra element to a dynamic scene. The sun slowly sank from view, and with it the wind, the landscape now changing in hue from greens and browns to blues and blacks. Fog is finally winning the battle, with visibility reduced once again to only paces in the moist grey blanket. I turn off the camera and go searching for the camera bag, as I find it's nearly dark. Returning to the tent, Megan greets me with some welcome dark chocolate, we chat a while talking of everything and anything. I finally take my boots of and slip into the sleeping bag to review the days images and clean the gear. Wind picks up and it begins to sort of rain intermittantly. We sleep to the constant patter of rain on the fly. Alpa 12SWA, Schneider 24mmXL, Leaf 75's, .9ND Grad, f11@2secs
