The three tallest slabs of the Stones of Stenness stone circle looking NW at 10-30pm after sunset with a rising moon extreme L. The slabs of sandstone (Orkney flagstone) stand within the remains of a circular, ditch-and-bank earthwork known as a henge monument. To the rear are the Ring of Brodgar and the Loch of Stenness (L), the Loch of Harray (R) and the central neck of land, known as the Ness of Brodgar, where the foundations of a complex of Neolithic ritual buildings within a massive precinct wall have been uncovered. These impressive prehistoric remains are part of The Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site.
