EpiPen and peanuts. EpiPen adrenaline syringe used for the emergency treatment of anaphylactic shock, sitting on a pile of dry-roasted peanuts. Anaphylactic shock is a type of allergic reaction that can be fatal in minutes. The EpiPen is an auto-injector that can be self-administered. This is the adult version containing milligrams of adrenaline. Peanuts are a common allergen that can trigger anaphylaxis. The symptoms of anaphylaxis include local or systemic swelling, a drop in blood pressure and breathing difficulties. People who are susceptible to such attacks should carry adrenaline with them.
