The general fertilizer market is steady to strong, for the demand is in- creasing season after season. In the lines of fertilizers most used by flo- rists the supi)ly is by no means keep- ing pace with the demand. There is nothing the florists like so well as the natural i)roduct of the dairy, but it has become impossible to procure all the cow manure that is required. Where a few years ago it was to be had by paying the freight for a short haul, now the average florist finds him- self so situated that he can not get all the manure he needs except at a cost that appears excessive. To sup- plement the supply from the dairy barns other fertilizers are being used, and on none of these is the market falling; increased demand is holding prices firni on all lines that do not show an actual advance. There may be fluctuations from time to time, but the growers must make up their minds that fertilizers never will be cheaper than they are now, or easier to get un- til the way is found to produce the desired results through the use of the manufactured rather than the natural products. The by-products of the abattoirs oven are less i)lentiful, rela- tively to tlie demand, than they ever were before and so easy to sell that the manufacturers make practically no eff'ort to find a market.
