Location map showing areas in Prince Edward Island National Park where the Gulf of St. Lawrence Aster occurs. Discussion The scope of the study reported in this publication was simply a survey on the distribution and abun- dance of this plant species for Park management purposes. The reader should refer to Hinds (1986) and Houle and Haber (1990) for detailed descrip- tions of the plant and specific details on the ecology and overall distribution of the plant. The obvious factor that contributed to an overall increase in abundance of this plant species in the Park is attributed to locating large populations on Blooming Point, an area that was not previously sur- veyed. Although the abundance and distribution of annual plant species can vary depending on climatic variables, the casual factors that may affect interan- nual variation were not investigated in this study. The numbers of plants in the two Blooming Point sub-populations, Dune Slack and Eastern Marsh, were estimated based on a typical average count of several 25 cm x 25 cm quadrats and extrapolated to Table 1.
