Although our stock of trees is limited this season, we have made the price low for such a promising new fruit. Le Conte. A cross between the old China Sand Pear and a cultivated variety. Fruit large, pyriform ; skin smooth, pale yellow. Maturity from July i to end of Au- gust. The tree is of remarkable vigor and rapid growth ; foliage dense and luxuriant; hardy everywhere, but of greatest value South. Le Conte and Kieffer are so far the most desirable varieties of this class, and our stock of trees is exceedingly large. Mr. Stringfellow, the pioneer Le Conte grower of Texas, says he first found out the superior quality of Le Conte after eating his own fruit in Chicago. Our stock is grown from cuttings of young, thrifty trees ; clean and healthy. Kieffer. A seedling of China Sand Pear, supposed to have been crossed with Bartlett. Fruit large to very large, affecting the ovoid or egg shape ; skin yellow, with a bright vermilion cheek ; flesh brittle, very juicy, with a marked musky aroma ; quality good. Tree very vigorous and prolific ; begins to bear when four years old. Matures from Septem- ber to October. It is unfortunate that the real merits of this fruit have been underestimated, from the haste in which it is hurried to market in an im- mature condition, and often before it has attained proper size. When it has been allowed to hang upon the tree until the beginning of October, and then carefully ripened in a cool,
