ELY CATHEDRAL GIRLS CHOIR REHEARSING FOR THE CHRISTMAS CAROL SERVICE.
ELY CATHEDRAL GIRLS CHOIR REHEARSING FOR THE CHRISTMAS CAROL SERVICE. One of the only GIRLS cathedral choirs in the UK is getting ready for its Christmas services. Ely Cathedral Girls' Choir sang in the magnificent Norman cathedral in Cambridgeshire as they rehearsed for the festive season. The choir was founded in September 2006 - more than 1000 YEARS after the boys' choir was formed. The 18 girls, who are all members of King's Ely and aged between 13 and 18, rehearse four mornings a week before school. They sing a number of concerts every year, both on their own and with the men and boys of the cathedral choir and have performed at services in Westminster Abbey and Notre Dame de Paris. The choir is led by Sarah MacDonald, who is also director of music at Selwyn College in Cambridge. She said: "The choir is really thriving and I am very proud of them. They are now well-established musically, even though the choir is still relatively young and they are making a terrific sound."
