A broadsword for a militia officer, end of the 18th century. A heavy, double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section, the obverse side etched with the crowned cipher "IRH", and the reverse side with the Hamburg coat of arms beneath a trophy bundle. Brass knucklebow hilt with open work, shell shaped, side guard plate. Leather grip cover with brass wire wrapping. Leather scabbard (new?) with brass mountings and two moveable suspension rings.
