'Faust Town' in the Felsenreitschule, Salzburg, Austria, c1935. The Felsenreitschule (literally 'rock riding school'), built in a former quarry, was originally used as a summer riding school. From 1926 it was the setting for open-air theatre for performances of the Salzburg Festival. Fauststadt ('Faust Town') refers to a 1933 production of Goethe's "Faust". The theatre was one of the locations in the 1965 film "The Sound of Music". From "Österreich - Land Und Volk", (Austria, Land and People). [R. Lechner (Wilhelm Müller), Vienna, c1935]
