The Puerta del Perdon is known as the Door of Forgiveness at the entrance to the Seville Cathedral and La Giralda in the city of in Sevilla, Spain. It has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Province of Andalusia, Spain. The Puerta del Perdon, which is known as the Door of Forgiveness is part of the wall surrounding the Seville Cathedral and La Giralda, which is the bell tower and minaret. This cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in the Santa Cruz District in the City of Sevilla in Andalusia, Spain. The Puerta del Perdon, the Door of Forgiveness, is the principal door of the gothic cathedral, which was built in 1256, and is only opened during each Jubilee Year when Saint Turibiu's celebration lands on a Sunday, but other than that it is not opened at all any more. This door used to be the main gate of the original temple and is thought to have been constructed during the fourteenth century then remodeled in the fifteenth century. It gained its special name for a reason. It is named the Door of Forgiveness due to the fact that when pilgrims came to the cathedral at the end of their pilgrimage they passed through the door. Since they were on a pilgrimage, which is a spiritual journey, as they passed under the door their sins were forgiven and their journey then had a meaning and a purpose. It is no longer in use today as a Door of Forgiveness as people do not make spiritual journeys to this cathedral anymore, but it has a solid place in history as an archway of magic and repentance and it is important to religious history.
