The Bremen Market Square with the statue of the city protector Roland Bremen Germany The photo is taken from the Town Hall collonade The Bremen Roland statue stands on the market square and symbolise the trading rights and freedom of Bremen The statue was erected in year 1404 and with its 5 5 meter it is the tallest of the many 26 similar Roland statues in Germany total high with its top is 10 meter In his hands he holds the sword of justice and a shield decorated with the two headed imperial eagle The statue is facing the nearby cathedral which represents the rights of the city opposed to the interests of the church in terms of its territorial claims Together with the Town Hall on the left side of the statue these was were added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2004
