, Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - Halde Rheinelbe. The Halke Rheinelbe (also called Himmelstreppe) is a 100m walkable mountain dump in Gelsenkirchen-Ueckendorf. The heap was schuetteten during the term of the bill Rheinelbe until its closure in 1928. As part of the IBA Emscherpark, the Halke Rheinelbe was developed as a recreational area and is now one of the landmarks of the Ruhrgebiet and the Route of Industrial Heritage. On the highest point of the heap stands the approximately 10-meter-high sculpture Himmelsteppe, designed by Herman Prigann (1942-2008). It consists of large, old concrete blocks from the Koenigsborn coking plant, which were piled up in the form of a staircase. View of the heap with the sculpture Himmelstreppe.
