Deep cultivation the first time over the field will not injure the corn; it will clean the ground and leave a good mulch. The experiments all show that deep cultivation after this always reduces the yield. LATE PLANTING BAD We should bear in mind that one of the most serious losses to the corn crop every year is due to late planting. Experi- ments show that late-planted corn seldom yields as much as that planted earlier, and the quality is inferior. The ground becomes hard and out of condition, the weeds have drawn upon.
