Beautiful Nikia village, hanging over the volcano of Nisyros island, Dodecanese, Greece
Here's a panoramic view of Nikeia village, that hangs right of the edge of the caldera. On the right part of the photo you can seen low in the heart of the volcanic valley, one of the 11 craters of the volcano of Nisyros. This particular one is Stefanos, the largest crater of Nisyros with a length of 330 metres and a width of 270 m. Nikeia village is one of the most beautiful of Nisyros. Once it was a very lively village with more than 500 habitants but today only 48 people live there, the rest of them are immigrants, mostly in USA and Australia. The square of the village is called "Porta" (means "door") and it has been officialy aclaimed as one of the most beautiful squares in Europe.
