Proteomics research. Conceptual computer artwork of proteomics research, also seen is part of a DNA molecule (down left) and a molecule of myoglobin (lower right). This represents proteomics, the study of the structure and function of all the proteins in an organism. Proteins form nearly all the functional tissues in an organism. Relating structure and function in proteins will improve the understanding of how organisms work and may lead to new targets for drugs. Myoglobin, similar to haemoglobin, is found in muscles cells and has a higher affinity to oxygen than haemoglobin. DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is the molecule associated with the transmission of genetic information.
