Sir John Carew Eccles (1903-1997), Australian neurophysiologist and Nobel laureate, using a microscope in a laboratory. Eccles was knighted in 1958. Eccles shared the 1963 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine with Andrew Fielding Huxley and Alan Lloyd Hodgkin. The share of the Nobel was awarded for Eccles's discoveries concerning nerve cell physiology. Photographed in November 1963.
