Lock no 11 on the Marple flight of locks on the Peak Forest canal has been rebuilt with some new stone work and a stone Mason has left his mark.
Cw 6751 Stone masons mark on lock 11 Marple Lock no 11 on the Marple flight of locks on the Peak Forest canal has been rebuilt with some new stones having to be placed in the side walls of the lock. It looks like one of the stone mason’s involved in the work has left a traditional mark on one of the blocks he installed. This lock had been rebuilt following on from a rebuild and reopening of lock 15 higher up the flight over the winter of 2017 -18 when it was found that the walls of the chamber of lock 11 had also moved inwards and it had become too narrow for boats to pass through it and so this lock had to be rebuilt over the winter of 2018-19.
