After serving fortwo years as insfructor in German and Mineralogyat Syracuse University, he went to Europe in 1899and took up graduate work at Munich, where hereceived the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in 1901 to 1902 he was again instructor inMineralogy at Syracuse University, being promotedto an Associate Professorship in the latter 1902 to 1904 he was head of the Departmentof Science in the Syracuse High School, also servingas Professor of Geology and Chemistry at the Sum-mer Sessions of Syracuse University in 1903
