The treatment by negative galvano puncture isa most simple, satisfactory and, when properly performed, harmless form of treatment, and is therefore recommended asthe best that we know of to-day simply because it has stoodthe test of experience. (Robmsoii.) Acute Cystitis.—Few physicians employ electricity inacute cystitis. Nevertheless, as an adjunct to other measuressuccessful relief of pain and tenesmus may be obtained by theemployment of a galvanic current. The method described forthis purpose is as follows : Select two similar felt-covered, flat electrodes, about 6X9moisten them in the usual hot-water solution of soda-bicar-bonate and connect them with the opposite poles of the gal-vanic battery. Place the negative under the sacrum and the 6oO TREATMENT OF GENITO-URINARY Fig. 281. Gradually increase the constantgalvanic current from zero up to 10, 15 or more mil., stoppingat the point which produces the greatest comfort and relief tothe patient. Continue the application until the utmost reliefis obtained, from ten to twenty minutes, and repeat night andmorning, or as often as the pain returns, until convalescence isestablished. If the patient is a male the sitting should be ended by re-moving the supra-pubic electrode after it affords relief andapplying a carbon electrode covered with absorbent cotton to
