Islands of Orkney, Scotland. Picturesque view of the Neolithic settlement at Skara Brae. House number 8 is in the foreground and Skaill House is in the distant background. After being uncovered by a severe storm, the settlement was discovered in 1850 by the local laird, William Watt of Skaill. Carbon dating estimates that the settlement was inhabited between the period of 3200BC and 2200BC. The settlement is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The property is a popular tourist attraction and is managed by Historic Scotland.
