Demonstration of the use of lasers in removing obstructions in fallopian tubes which connect the ovaries with the womb in mammals. Here, the subject is a rabbit although the technique may eventually be applied to fertility problems in humans. An invisible carbon dioxide laser is used, guided by a red neon/argon aiming beam. The tubes may have become obstructed through infection, prior surgery, or congenital abnormalities: a section might be removed, have any disease cored out & re-implanted - the inner passage is about 1mm wide. Where more than one blockage occurs, the diseased sections may be excised with the laser & healthy sections rejoined by microsurgery.
