Former Horse-drawn Bus depot building now used by businesses at Schwedenstraße 14-15, gesundbrunnen, Mitte, Berlin In 1907-08, Franz Ahrens built a five-storey residential building with an adjoining bus depot on Schwedenstrasse for the Allgemeine Berliner Omnibus-Actien-Gesellschaft (ABOAG) The ABOAG was introducing motorized buses but the buses on several routes between the city centre and the suburbs were still horse-powered. This type of building was developed at the end of the 19th century to accommodate horses in a densely built-up urban area in a space-saving manner, the carriages were parked on the ground floor, the first floor was used as a stable for horses, and second floor was used for feeding. The ramps leading up were not preserved. The depot closed when ABOAG completely discontinued horse operations in 1923.
