DowPumping Engine Company, of San Francisco. It is driventhrough gearing by a General Electric-1000 35-hp motor. Thecar is mounted on a Taylor truck, the motor equipment consist-ing of two W. motors. A heavy suction pipe, longenough to draw water from the bay, is carried along oneside of the car. TRAIN OPERATION The first regular train service over the Key Route was in-augurated on Oct. 26, when an hourly schedule was put intoeffect, and one boat was used for the pier connection. A fewdays after that a half-hourly service was put on with two boats,and on Nov. 28 the schedule was increased to a 20-minute ser-vice. The present time card calls for ninety-seven trains dur-ing the day, running at 20-minute intervals from 6:20 a. m. to7:00 p. m., when hourly trains are operated till a. m. Tofollow out the present schedule four trains are required. Six-car trains have been operated, and the equipment has beenbuilt to handle safely eight cars in a train. The distance be-tween Berkeley and the pier depot, miles, is made regu-larly, including the four stops, within the
