Girl dressed up as Lady of the Dead, La Calavera Catrina, celebrating Day of the Dead, Día de Muertos, a Mexican national holiday of Aztec tradition.

Day of the Dead, Día de Muertos, is a traditional, cultural Mexican Holiday, with roots dating back to ancient, pre-Columbian Aztec rituals. The holiday blends old, indigenous traditions with more modern Catholic religious ceremonies, as a way of showing respect for, and mourning the dead. La Calavera Catrina , the Dapper Skeleton, has roots in the ancient Aztec "Lady of the Dead", Mictecacihuatl, keeper of the bones. Her likeness is a common feature in modern Day of the dead celebrations and rituals. Day of the dead is a three day celebration, starting on October 31st of the year with All Hallows Eve, in remembrance of dead children. The following day, November 1st, is All Saints Day, when the spirits of the daed are invited to visit. The last day of the celebration, November 2nd, is All Souls Day, where people decorate the graves of friends and relatives.
