Atmospheric aerosols. Computer artwork of the Earth showing a collection of aerosol particles (centre right) over the Indian Ocean. An aerosol is a suspension of fine solid particles or liquid droplets in a gas. Common atmospheric aerosols include smoke, smog, carbon (soot) particles, chemicals, sand, dust, and water. Aerosols can be both natural ( sandstorms and sea spray), and human induced ( smoke from factories).
