Certain environments andconditions so change us that we can-not b<- our natural selves while soplaced. So it is with Wild Turkeys inthe show room; the position is out ofthe ordinary and extremely trying,consequently the bird is unnatural. PREPARING FOR THE FIRSTSHOW A few years ago I got it into myhead that Id like other people to seemy turkeys. Like all amateurs, Ithought I had the best ever and so. The above picture is from a snap-shot photo of Miss Tysons Wild Tom. with fear and trembling I made myfirst attempt. The question with mewas, not to improve them in any wayfor I thought them par excellence,but to get them tame enough to looktheir best while in the show. I se-lected two toms, one a yearling andthe other a cockerel and placed themin a pen I had underneath a cornhouse; this pen was about 6 x 20 went in with them frequently, al-ways taking some choice food andtalking with them in a confidentialway. I used every method I could thinkof to get them to pose, sometimes Icame away thinking I had struck theright thing and that I had at lastgained control over them, but Io! thenext time Id try that same method Icould not get them to do anything 1wished. I found it was best not tobe too sure so early in the when I went into that penthey seemed to be well satisfied thatI meant no harm, but again theywould act as if I had determined toh
