Cinnamon bark (Cinnamomum verum) with star aniseed (Illicium verum) St. Lucia Windward Islands West Indies Caribbean


Cinnamon spice is obtained from the a small evergreen tree's bark (Cinnamomum verum or C. zeylanicum) belonging to the family Lauraceae, native to Sri Lanka. Star anise, star aniseed, badiane or Chinese star anise, is a spice that closely resembles anise in flavor and it is obtained from the star-shaped pericarp of Illicium verum, a small native evergreen tree of southwest China.
