Vintage portrait of English bare-knuckle boxer Tug Wilson (1847 - 1933). Wilson (real name Joseph Collins) was a popular pugilist from Leicester who is credited with more than 50 fights during a lengthy career. His most notable bout took place in 1882 at Madison Square Garden, New York, when he took on World Heavyweight Champion John L Sullivan who had offered a large purse to any man who could last four rounds with him. Wilson survived the four rounds and won $1,000 for his efforts.
