Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy. The Karst Plateau by Trieste. Mount Hermada (Grmada in Slovenian) is a low hill on the boundary between Italy and Slovenia. In the course of the WWI, it was an inexpugnable bulwark of the Austro-Hungarian Army, that defended Trieste from its top. 'Quota 280' also called 'Monte Cocco' (Nad Kokem). The Austrian defensive works at 'Quota 280' consisted in a number of bunkers, some of them connected by means of a labyrinth of tunnels that passed through the mountain top.
