The sports hall of school No. 1 in Beslan, North Ossetia, Russia, in the wake of a terrorist attack that left hundreds of people dead. Over a thousand hostages were held here by terrorists demanding that Russian troops pull back from the republic of Chechnya. They were taken hostage on the 1st of September, 2004. Hundreds of them, including 186 children, died when Russian forces stormed the school on the 3rd of September. Altogether 334 were killed during the three days of the hostage drama.
