An AV-8B Harrier II vertical short takeoff and landing jet powers up its engines before taking off from the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Nassau (LHA 4) in the Atlantic Ocean on Dec. 14, 2009. The Nassau is underway with other elements of the Nassau Amphibious Ready Group and the embarked 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit for a certification exercise.
