Antarctic expedition newspaper. British explorer and zoologist Apsley Cherry-Garrard (1886-1959) editing the 'South Polar Times' on 8 June 1911 during the British Antarctic Expedition (1910-1913). He produced four issues of this newspaper, first published during the Discovery Antarctic expedition (1901-04). The later expedition was also known as the Terra Nova Expedition. Its primary objectives were scientific. Led by Robert Falcon Scott, the shore party of 34 spent two seasons exploring on and around the Ross Ice Shelf. Scott and four others died in March 1912 returning from their journey to the South Pole. Photographed by Herbert George Ponting.
