Santorini Island in the Aegean Sea is a part of a caldera formed by a major volcanic eruption around 1610 BC leaving a mostly submerged caldera twelve by seven kilometers wide with roughly 300 meter high steep cliffs at three sides. Nowadays at the top of this high walls picturesque villages with bright white houses like Oia are situated attracting a lot of tourism each year. Die Insel Santorin im Ägäischen Meer ist ein Teil einer gefluteten Caldera, die durch eine gewaltige Vulkaneruption um das Jahr 1610 vor Christus entstand.
