Weather radar station. Meteorologist inspecting the electronics for the antennas (in background) for a weather radar station. Radar maps can be used to study rainfall patterns. This weather station is in Nangatchori, Benin. The data obtained is being used in the AMMA (African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis) project to study the African monsoon season. The monsoon is a seasonal period of heavy rainfall following prevailing winds. In western Africa, it arrives in June.
