Kennedy, a Senator from Massachusetts, won that presidential election, which was one of the closest races in America's history. Nixon eventually won the top post when he ran again in 1968. The following year Nixon was inaugurated as the 37th President of the , an office he held until he resigned in disgrace in 1974. Nixon died in 1994 at age 81.
