The abandoned village of Pollphail at Portavadie in Argyll, Western Scotland
The Portavadie complex was built with the help of local labour from the fishing village 'Tarbert' that lay due west across Loch Fyne. The locals from Tarbert who worked there were told that oil had been found on the west shores Loch. There was never a reason why the project was closed and the site lay redundant from that point on. In the mid eighties the enclosed port was used by a local fish farm company. Recently, it was announced that a revamp of the "ghost village" is planned over the next 5 to 10 years.[2] In early 2008 the harbour was finished and the harbour now has a large restaurant , bar and hotel. In 2009 the harbour was used for the first time to tie up boat for the Scottish series. In 2010 the prices for tie up for a short visit were cheaper than Tarbert just across the water , but the prices for a more permanent position in the Tarbert pontoons are cheaper. However it should be considered that Tarbert does have more to offer to a tourist than Portavadie , as Tarbert has many more shops , where Portavadie has one.
