P-44. Meet P-43 and P-44, the two newest members of our mountain lion study! These 3-4 week-old females are from two separate litters on opposite ends of our study area, one in the Santa Monica Mountains and the other in the Santa Susanas. This is the first time we've documented litters with only one kitten. Since our mountain lion research started in 2002, we've documented a total of 10 kitten litters, though two of those were when the kittens were already at least six months of age.
