Thetown is located in the extreme northeast part of the county,in the form of a rectangle, its length extending from eastto west. The general surface is mountainous and hilly,but with fine intervals. Along the eastern line is theTaghkanic range, in the form of foot-hills of the loftierBerkshire mountains, several miles distant. The hills aregenerally cultivated to the summit, and those having asouthern exposure are very fertile. They were originallycovered with a light growth of the common hard timber,birch, and occasio
